We offer healthcare providers and clinics with training and technical assistance so they can implement Hunger Vital Sign food insecurity screenings into their processes. We will also expand the Partners in Health Program, a food bank healthcare partnership providing nutrition education and healthy food for food insecure families.

The East Texas Food Bank announced on Wednesday that it is launching a new initiative to better help area families with food-related needs.
Despite increasing the medication and insulin of a patient with diabetes, Dr. Michele Bosworth found the man’s condition was only getting worse. The patient suffered multiple heart attacks. Soon, both doctor and patient were growing weary of what could be done to improve his condition. “One day he said to me, ‘Well, Dr. Bosworth, I can only eat what I get from the food bank,” said Bosworth, a family physician and patient safety officer at UT Health North Campus Tyler. “And I thought, wow, it didn’t really matter what I was prescribing to him. He only had the resources available to him that he could get from the food bank.”
UT Health East Texas' North Tyler Pediatric Clinic recently joined the Partners in Health team helping their patients address food insecurity and improve their health.
Kinsey was born and raised in Longview, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in nutrition and completed her dietetic internship program through Abilene Christian University at City Square in Dallas, Texas. She also recently completed her Master of Public Health at UT Health Science Center at Tyler. Kinsey is passionate about improving health outcomes in East Texas and currently works as the nutrition education manager at the East Texas Food Bank in Tyler, Texas, overseeing their SNAP-Ed program.
Dr. Smith is a pediatrician at St. Paul Children’s Services in Tyler, Texas where she leads the Community-Centered Health Home Initiative. She is a graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and completed her residency at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Smith chairs the Smith County Food Security Council and serves on the Fit City Tyler Steering committee and the board of the East Texas Food Bank. She is co-chair of the Texas Pediatric Society Foster Care Committee and serves on the TPS Executive Legislative Committee and Board of Directors.
In addition, she serves as a consultant for Superior Healthcare on their Foster Care Centers of Excellence program. She is active in pediatric health advocacy and regularly testifies for the Texas legislature and authors editorials for the Dallas Morning News. She is the recipient of the 2019 W.T. “Doc” Ballard Award for Excellence in Public Health, the TPS Executive Board Award and the AAP Chapter Excellence Award.
